WAserv Portal (for volunteers to enroll or update their WAsafe profile)
Legal basis and protocols for WAsafe are embodied in these two sections of the Washington Codes:
There is a separate Good Samaritan law intended to protect "neighbors who are helping neighbors." Individuals working under this law are not operating under WAsafe, the local building official, or AHJ.
FEMA INDEPENDENT STUDY COURSES
These courses are not required to enroll as a WAsafe Building Safety Evaluator, but the links are provided in case they are required or desired by a jurisdiction. Courses Are Free and Online
NIMS RESOURCE TYPES
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has established national standards for Building Safety Evaluators, referred to as the NIMS Resource Types on this website. For many reasons, WAsafe is not using the NIMS classifications. However, some jurisdictions may desire to use the NIMS Resource Types for requesting BSEs, or volunteers from other states may already have the qualifications. For those cases, links to the NIMS classifications and a mapping of NIMS Resource Types to WAsafe BSE types are provided on the NIMS Resource Types page.
